Local News in Brief : Rent Control for Mobile Homes

Share

Mobile home politics--always a sensitive topic in Carson, where mobile home residents vote heavily in blocs--has surfaced again less than two months in advance of a key municipal election.

The City Council last week unanimously approved Mayor Kay Calas’ motion to reaffirm support for the Carson’s mobile home park rent control ordinance.

Calas said she sought the motion because of rumors that the city is planning to repeal the ordinance and dissolve the Mobile Home Rental Review Board, which monitors rent increases.

Councilwoman Sylvia Muise challenged Calas to go beyond her motion and revive a proposal that the city help provide financing for mobile home park residents who want to buy their parks. Calas agreed only that the financing proposal should be restudied.
