Leave it to Texas to open the nation’s biggest retail store, called Hypermart, which is aptly named, as a person has to be hyper to have the necessary speed and energy to shop in its 222,000-square-foot interior (“Hypermart--Shopping on a Grand Scale,” Feb. 7).

I think Hypermart is an interesting and innovative concept, and I hope it comes to California. It sure would be convenient and time-saving, and it would give new meaning to one-stop shopping.

The store apparently has everything from groceries, clothing, furniture and tires to movie rentals, health foods, jewelry, banking, deli items and shoe repair: something for everyone. It’s like the Price Club, Giant, Fedco, Levitz and Sears all rolled up into one.

If Hypermart hits California, I hope the developer makes sure that the streets are wide enough and that there are enough parking spaces and traffic signals nearby, as I hear the traffic jams around the Texas store are a major catastrophe.
