Porsche Owner Slain in Self-Defense, Police Say
The owner of a Sunland car-repair shop acted in self-defense when he shot and killed an armed customer, Los Angeles police said Saturday.
David Maurice Craig, 40, of La Crescenta was released after the shooting Friday at Porsche Sports, 7840 Foothill Blvd., Sgt. Gerd Konieczny said.
David Lamont Cowley, 24, of Los Angeles, died at the scene.
Police said the shooting stemmed from a dispute over repairs to Cowley’s car, but did not elaborate. The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office will be asked to review the case, Konieczny said.
Craig told The Times that the shooting occurred after Cowley arrived at the shop shortly after 5 p.m. to pick up his 1983 Porsche 930 convertible. Cowley became upset when told that other work he wanted on the car could not be done at Porsche Sports, Craig said.
When Cowley threatened him with a gun from the Porsche, Craig said, he took a pistol from a toolbox and shot Cowley.
