Local News in Brief : San Juan Capistrano : Woman, 40, Rescued From Burning Duplex
A 40-year-old woman was hospitalized in critical condition with second- and third-degree burns after firefighters rescued her from her burning duplex, authorities said Monday.
Marilyn Hamilton, who was found unconscious in her bedroom late Sunday night, was listed in critical condition Monday at the UCI Medical Center burn ward, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The fire, of unknown origin, had almost completely engulfed Hamilton’s half of the duplex in the 32000 block of Via Tonada, said Patti Range, spokeswoman for the county Fire Department.
It took 25 firefighters about 10 minutes to control the blaze, which was first reported shortly before 11 p.m., Range said. The fire caused $128,000 damage to Hamilton’s side of the duplex and another $2,000 damage to the other half.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Range said.
