An effort by history buffs in Livermore to honor adventure writer Jack London failed when city park directors turned down a proposal to rechristen Neptune Park as Jack London Park. City Heritage Preservation Commission Chairwoman Marie Abbott said the vote showed that local residents are too parochial to honor the internationally respected author. Last year, city officials also turned down Abbott’s request to rename a street after the writer. London, who spent part of his childhood in Livermore, called his years there “the dullest possible existence.”
