An El Monte man accused of raping three teen-age girls, one of whom he allegedly held captive for three days, has surrendered to Los Angeles police.

Gary G. Sanchez, 21, was being held in lieu of $100,000 bond for investigation of 22 counts in the kidnaping, robbery and rape of two 15-year-olds and a 19-year-old, authorities said.

The victims, who were abducted from the streets in El Monte and Los Angeles over the last two months, told police that their abductor threatened to kill them and would force them to watch as he injected drugs into his veins.

Sanchez, who reportedly told friends he would never be taken alive and sought refuge in the hills above a cemetery in Whittier, apparently grew tired of life on the run, officers said. On Wednesday, he telephoned his mother saying he wanted to turn himself in. The mother placed a call to Hollenbeck Division detectives, who picked up Sanchez at his mother’s home in El Monte.
