Defeat of Plan to Widen Road
Many people perceive the beauty of Laguna Canyon to be back from and above the unsightly sides of the road. The very vocal artists of Laguna Beach see it differently. They persuaded the Coastal Commission to represent their wishes more than the wishes of the users of Laguna Canyon Road who seek more safety.
Since the residents of Laguna Beach have more representation in the matter than the users of the road, more of Laguna Beach taxes might be used to satisfy their wishes. To this end the Legislature should adopt the view of Keith McKean of Caltrans that responsibility for the road be returned to Laguna Beach.
