Four white students denied harassing a black professor at Dartmouth College. The students, staff members of the right-leaning “Dartmouth Review,” an independent newspaper on the Hanover, N. H., campus, told a disciplinary panel that the professor used “violence and vulgarity” in a confrontation with them in his classroom. The students are accused of harassment, disorderly conduct and invasion of privacy stemming from the Feb. 25 confrontation between the students and music professor William Cole, criticized in a Review article that called one of his courses a “notorious gut” that lacked academic merit. The students said they went to his class seeking a response to the article about him.
