In addition to a shotgun, a siren and a radio, Pierce County officers now have something else in their patrol cars--a teddy bear.

The teddy bears, which will be used to comfort children involved in accidents or other mishaps, were provided by the Pierce County chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving and the Tacoma-Seattle Teddy Bear Club.

“They talk about these calming kids, but I’ve got one in my office and it keeps me a lot calmer,” Tacoma Police Capt. Burton Joyce said.
