Local News in Brief : Firm Settles Antitrust Suit

Share

One of the nation’s largest manufacturers of police uniforms agreed Tuesday to pay $45,000 in penalties to settle an antitrust lawsuit filed against it by the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Leventhal Brothers & Co. Inc. of New York also agreed to a permanent injunction prohibiting it from engaging in illegal restraint of trade and from intimidation, coercion or harassment of competitors, or those who trade with competitors.

The settlement signed in Superior Court contained no admission of liability by Leventhal.

The district attorney’s office alleged in December that Leventhal and others, including several major police uniform stores in Los Angeles, violated California’s antitrust laws by boycotting certain customers or competitors in the police uniform industry in Los Angeles.

The civil lawsuit also alleged that Leventhal and others threatened to cut off uniform retailers who dealt with disfavored businesses.
