A 16-year-old youth was arrested Tuesday as a suspect in a gang shooting last month on a crowded RTD bus in which three teen-agers and an adult were wounded.

A Los Angeles police spokesman said officers were led to the youth from tips provided by South-Central area residents. The suspect’s gun was not recovered, the spokesman said.

The youth, whose name was withheld, was booked at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall. Police said they will seek a Juvenile Court petition charging him with four counts of attempted murder.

The Feb. 25 shooting, which occurred as the bus pulled to the corner of 60th Street and Vermont Avenue, near John Muir Junior High School, apparently was the result of gang rivalry.

Police said two gang members asked passengers if they were affiliated with a rival gang. One of the gang members then allegedly pulled a .45-caliber handgun from his waistband and sprayed shots inside the packed bus before fleeing on foot, witnesses said.
