A Marshalltown, Iowa, postman making his rounds Tuesday discovered in a mailbox what is believed to be a stolen masterpiece by French Impressionist Claude Monet. The painting of fishing boats, estimated to be worth $175,000, was cut from its frame last March at Marshalltown’s Fisher Community Center. While police were confident that the Monet was the real article, an art expert will be brought in to verify the work. Police speculated the thief felt “remorseful” and decided not to sell the stolen work.
