Local News in Brief : South County : Meeting Will Address Growth Problems

Share

A public meeting sponsored by Citizens United for Responsible Building will be at 10 a.m. today to discuss growth issues that area residents may face after the expected incorporation of Dana Point.

In notices mailed to residents of Dana Point, Capistrano Beach and the Laguna Niguel coastal strip, all of whom would be affected by the incorporation, the group contended that some form of local growth control “is imperative if the distinct charm of the area (that currently is governed at the county level) is to be maintained.”

Darryl Paul, organizer of the group, said that “county philosophy seems to be that ‘more is better.’ ” While his group is neither anti-growth nor anti-development, “more isn’t always better,” he said, and local control is important.

Citizens of the communities will vote June 7 on the incorporation issue.

Today’s meeting place is the Capistrano Bay Parks and Recreation facility, 34052 Del Obispo St., Dana Point.
