UA’s “James Bond No. 16”--no official title yet--goes before the cameras in mid-summer. And we’ve learned that the script by Richard Maibaum and Michael G. Wilson, still in rewrites, has 007 encountering a couple who head a Bible college that sponsors a very special telethon. During their fund-raiser, they transmit info to other baddies about . . . drug smuggling!
Other villains: the suave but dangerous Sanchez, a woman-beater named Krest and a federal marshal who seems so all-American--but has traitorous ways.
As for the obligatory “Bond girls”: the full-bodied beauty contestant Lupe (a.k.a. Miss Galaxy) appears to be a ditzoid--ah, but could be she’s smarter than she appears. Pamela, meanwhile, is the take-charge type: American, good looks and smarts, covets power. Oh--she’s also a smuggler.
John Glen will direct his fifth consecutive Bond.
