Local news in Brief : Huntington Beach : Workers Contribute to Library Foundation
Employees of the McDonnell Douglas Astronautics Co. have donated $10,000 to the Huntington Beach Library Patrons Foundation, to be used for buying educational videotapes about drug abuse, the city announced.
“These funds will allow us to provide information concerning this epidemic plague on our society,” Ron Hayden, the city’s library director, said in a prepared statement. “Videotapes are an ideal format for group discussion and to increase awareness of this growing problem.”
The Huntington Beach Library currently has 1,800 videotapes, according to Hayden, and only five of those address drug and alcohol abuse.
It is the second gift of $10,000 that McDonnell Douglas workers have contributed to the library. The donations have come through their Personnel Community Service Program, a nonprofit employee organization that distributes the contributions of all McDonnell Douglas companies.
