Judge Rules Bayh Son Can Run for Ind. Gov.

A Shelby County judge ruled today that Secretary of State Evan Bayh, 32, son of former Sen. Birch E. Bayh Jr., meets the constitutional five-year residency requirement to be governor.

In a 10-page ruling, Shelby Circuit Judge Charles D. O’Connor concluded that the Democratic gubernatorial candidate did not lose his Indiana residency when he worked as an attorney in Washington, D.C., in 1983 and 1984 as Republicans had argued.
