“The Dance Collection.” Donna Summer. Casablanca. This 73-minute CD brings together extended remixes from all eight 12-inch dance singles Summer released between 1977 and 1979--the height of her reign as the queen of disco. Included are the locomotive-like “I Feel Love,” her soulful, multitextured version of “MacArthur Park” and the sassy “Hot Stuff.” Disco backlash aside, these remain powerful examples of how inventive dance music can be in the right hands, thanks in large part to the still-imitated production work of Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte. Remastered from the original tapes, the sound is explosively clean. ****
