Town Shuns Fame and Name as Sleepy Hollow

NORTH TARRYTOWN, N.Y. —
Voters in North Tarrytown refused to rename their town Sleepy Hollow to lure tourists and industry to the idyllic village where Washington Irving gave life to Rip Van Winkle and the Headless Horseman.
Supporters of the ballot item were bitterly disappointed at the 1,322-to-794 vote Tuesday in the quiet riverside town of 8,000 people in Westchester County.
