John McEnroe dismissed any rumors of early retirement and said he plans to return to tournament competition at the Grand Prix event in Tokyo starting April 11.
“I am not going to quit. I have every intention of returning to the circuit,” McEnroe told Reuters in an interview from Los Angeles. “Any reports of me retiring are premature and totally incorrect.
McEnroe, 29, has not played in a tournament since the U.S. Open in September, where he received a 60-day suspension for his unsportsmanlike behavior. Since serving his suspension he has remained out of competition with a chronic back problem.
