‘KEN RUSSELL’S ABC OF BRITISH MUSIC’

Fri, March 19, 6:30 p.m.; Sat., March 20, 8:45 p.m.; Goodson. Ken Russell pops on screen with his own massively irreverent and delightfully cheeky primer on British music. Russell has included an unusual number of strip-teases for an examination of serious British music, but he’s also commissioned new works by Julian Lloyd Webber and Nigel Kennedy, and he uses the time to vehemently champion neglected composers and artists of past and present, and to lambaste inflated reputations; Sir Michael Tippett is his special bete noir. Lots of fun, lots of music; when Russell wants to entertain us, he certainly can. RECOMMENDED.
