Local News in Brief : 8 Years for Drunk Driver
A Los Angeles man with 12 previous drunk driving convictions was sentenced to 8 years in County Jail after pleading no contest in three new cases, prosecutors said Thursday.
The sentence imposed Wednesday on Raymond Faniel is the second-longest jail term in city history in a drunk driving case, City Atty. James K. Hahn said.
Faniel, 38, was sentenced by Los Angeles Municipal Judge L. C. Nunley after pleading no contest in three cases, two of which involved PCP intoxication as well as alcohol. He also pleaded no contest to seven probation violations.
Faniel, whose drunk driving convictions date back to 1974, has been in jail in lieu of bail since his most recent arrest Dec. 23, prosecutors said. He pleaded no contest to charges stemming from that arrest, as well as to charges stemming from drunk driving arrests last Sept. 22 and Nov. 21.
