Deck the Hall

Secretary extraordinaire Fawn Hall was a standout in a roomful of movie stars at last week’s American Film Institute tribute to Jack Lemmon, and not because her date was actor Rob Lowe. It was because her mid-thigh-length skirt revealed the second prettiest pair of legs in the Beverly Hilton ballroom. (First-place legs belong to Shirley MacLaine.) As for Hall’s wardrobe for the event, she wore a pale pink leather-and-linen dress with matching short jacket. “Oh, it’s Nordstrom,” Hall replied when asked who had designed it, adding that the department store just recently opened a branch in the nation’s capital.

Thair She Is!

We recognized her by her hair. (It’s just like in the movies, full and frizzled and almost to her waist.) Otherwise, Sonia Braga might have slipped right past us at the Charles Gallay boutique. She was shopping for something to wear opening night of her new movie “The Milagro Beanfield Wars.” But at the time she had on more men’s clothes than we’ve ever seen on a glamour queen. Pale blue jeans, men’s plaid shirt, navy-blue pullover and green herringbone jacket. Oh yes, and pink running shoes. For the premiere she bought a cream-colored minidress, fitted to the hips and flared from there, with a cream-colored jacket, by Azzedine Alaia.

Clip-so Music

David Sanborn is so close to his saxophone that he takes it with him when he’s having his hair cut. Listen hears from Philip Carreon of Cassandre in Beverly Hills that Sanborn checked his sax at the reception desk when he recently stopped in for a trim. He’s not the only music maker seen at the salon lately. Cher was there for a color consultation (she’s about to go even darker) , Steve Perry got a perm, and Madonna ordered up every spare bottle of heavy-duty sculpting gel in the place.

Cats Return Home

Today, and only today, you can take a peek at two felines--pieces from the late Duchess of Windsor’s jewelry box--at Cartier on Rodeo Drive. Sorry to say they’re not for sale though. The diamond-and-sapphire panther brooch and an emerald-eyed tiger lorgnette, both originally created by Cartier, were purchased back by the company last year. For a successful auction bid of $1.3 million, they now belong in the Cartier archives. They’re currently touring the country to launch the jewelry company’s newest scent. You’ll get a roar out of this: It’s called Panthere de Cartier.

On the Hounds’ Scent

While we’re on the subject of animals, if you’re one of those pet owners who believes that nothing is too good for Fido, you might be interested in this item from the canine beauty department: dog shampoo and coat conditioner that smell suspiciously like Obsession and Giorgio perfumes. School Daze and Dazzle

Joan Collins wore a Nolan Miller suit with tulip sleeves. Barbara Grant (widow of Cary) wore a dress made from material Madame Sylvia Woo had given her. Barbara Eden wore a perky red suit with black polka dots. Michael York looked very spring-like in a pale blue suit and flowered tie. Jim Bullock, we hear, dashed into a closet to quickly change his clothes. He emerged wearing a spiffy oversize jacket, baggy trousers and eye-catching Clacton & Frinton tie. Where was all this? At the luncheon that followed Andrew and Fergie’s visit to the Park Century School in West Los Angeles. The benefit for the International Foundation for Learning Disabilities also had what we think were royal raffle prizes: gowns by James Galanos and Oleg Cassini.

A Different Whiff

Is Shelley Hack spoiled? Listen spied the erstwhile model for Revlon’s Charley perfume ads on our way to a party for Spoiled, the latest scent from Rodeo Drive. Herb Fink, who created it with Lee Bronson, tells us it’s sold at Fink’s own Theodore boutique and at Bullock’s. Later on, it’ll be available in several other cities at major specialty stores. Whether or not Hack took home a sample bottle that night, she must have caught a whiff of it. So many people were spraying it on, you couldn’t help but get a little spoiled.
