Gulch Outclasses Foes in Debut as 4-Year-Old
Gulch, making his debut as a 4-year-old, outclassed an allowance field in Friday’s $55,000 feature race before a crowd of 18,689 at Santa Anita.
Eddie Delahoussaye placed Gulch with the leaders throughout the early going of the six-furlong sprint, then sent him to the lead at the eighth pole. The son of Mr. Prospector beat Sebrof by 1 3/4 lengths in 1:08 4/5.
Gulch earned $30,250 to increase his career winnings to $1,764,931, seventh best among active thoroughbreds, and paid $8.20, $3.60 and $2.60.
