State Sen. Art Torres Injured in Car Crash

SAN FRANCISCO — State Sen. Art Torres (D-Los Angeles) suffered minor injuries Saturday when a speeding car in which he was a passenger went out of control, smashed into a concrete abutment and overturned.
The accident occurred about 4 a.m. at a curve on a four-lane highway in the Hunters Point district, police said.
The driver, Roberto Y. Hernandez, 32, of San Francisco was arrested for walking away from the accident scene and for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Another passenger, Martha Baza, 49, of Los Angeles was hospitalized with severe leg injuries.
