Former President Ferdinand E. Marcos said “I’m not dead yet” and dismissed as baseless reports that he would pay $7 billion to be allowed to return to his Philippine homeland.

In an interview from his exile in Hawaii, broadcast on a private Manila radio station today, Marcos, 70, repeated previous denials that he is dying from cancer.

He urged President Corazon Aquino to allow him to return and help unite all political groups to avert an “imminent” Communist victory.

“If we do not do anything within a month or two, perhaps a little more, the Communists will take over the Philippines,” Marcos said.

Aquino has barred Marcos from returning, fearing that his presence would cause political instability.
