Local News in Brief : Tustin : City Council Drops Plan for Annexation
The City Council on Monday voted unanimously to drop efforts to annex a small East Tustin neighborhood, saying that nearly two-thirds of the residents have opposed the move.
But the council delayed action on plans to annex two areas of North Tustin, saying they are still receiving responses from area residents to the proposals.
Council members voted to scrap annexation efforts for the area known as La Colina/Beverly Glen in East Tustin after confirming that 61% of the area’s residents had signed petitions against the plan. City officials said they are required to drop annexation efforts if at least 50% of an area’s residents are opposed.
The council set an April 4 hearing on the plan to annex a 160-acre parcel known as Fairhaven Avenue, near the northwest border of North Tustin, where many residents have voiced opposition. An April 4 hearing also was set for annexation plans for the 16.5-acre Prospect Avenue area, a neighborhood of about 50 homes just east of the Fairhaven area.
