Eastern European governments are doing little to fight international terrorists, especially those from the Middle East, according to a report from the House Foreign Affairs Committee. The report by committee member Olympia Snowe was based on a trip she took in January to investigate the activities of the Abu Nidal organization and other terrorist groups in Yugoslavia, Poland and East Germany. Snowe, a Maine Republican, noted in her report that Yugoslavia has refused to extradite accused terrorists such as Abul Abbas, who directed the hijacking of the Achille Lauro cruise ship, while Poland and East Germany have allowed Abu Nidal agents to operate businesses as fronts in their countries without hindrance.
