Democrat Michael S. Dukakis would beat Bush in Michigan if the presidential election were held now, according to a poll published in Monday’s Detroit News.
The poll shows that 45% of the 1,203 registered voters surveyed by telephone March 15-17 would vote for the Massachusetts governor, while 39% said they would vote for the vice president.
Dukakis is the only Democrat who would beat Bush if the election were held now, the poll shows.
Bush would defeat Gephardt, 45% to 37%; Tennessee Sen. Albert Gore Jr., 48% to 35%, and the Rev. Jesse Jackson, 52% to 31%, according to the poll.
