Two men were ordered to stand trial Tuesday on charges of battery on police officers stemming from a melee at a hospital after police fatally shot a suspect during a drug arrest.

Michael Baker, 24, and Shondell Clark, 18, both of San Diego, were ordered to appear April 5 for arraignment on the felony charges after the preliminary hearing.

Three San Diego police officers testified they received minor injuries at the UCSD Medical Center after the defendants fought with them after learning of the death of Johnny Douglas, 29, on March 6.

Police later said the shooting of Douglas was an accident that occurred after an undercover drug sale.

Officer John McGill told San Diego Municipal Court Judge Rafael Arreola that Clark threatened him, saying: “I’m going to kill you like you killed my cousin.”

Officer Gregory Bisesto said Baker pounded his head and unsuccessfully grabbed for his gun.

The men are charged with battery upon a police officer, causing great bodily injury, assault with force likely to produce bodily injury, and obstruction of a police officer.

Arreola continued the $25,000 bail amount for both defendants, who remain in county jail.
