Expatriate Americans favored Dukakis for the Democratic presidential nomination on Tuesday as Democrats living abroad voted in a special primary in London.

According to results announced by the Democratic Party Committee Abroad (DPCA) in London, Dukakis won 41.5% of some 2,400 votes cast by U.S. citizens living in 39 countries throughout the world.

Most of them had voted by mail but London residents for the first time had the chance to take part in person at a polling station opposite Westminster Cathedral.

Dukakis pulled well away from the rest of the field in the expatriate stakes. Jackson came in second, winning 14.5% of the votes cast.

The Republican Party does not hold a primary election specifically for Americans living abroad.
