Bonita Schools : Trustee Bingham Resigns

Share

School board member Frank Bingham has resigned effective April 15, citing time conflicts with his work as a research consultant. Bingham, 45, made the announcement at last week’s board meeting.

“I find that my personal life has suddenly changed such that I am unable to give the time I feel is needed on the Board of Education,” Bingham said in a prepared statement. Because of the extensive travel required by his work, he has missed six meetings in the past six months.

Bingham, who was reportedly out of town on business, could not be reached for further comment.

In his letter of resignation, Bingham did not mention the current impasse in contract negotiations between the district and the Bonita Unified Teachers Assn. However, he indirectly referred to the matter while urging the board to control costs.

“There are those interests in the district who are carelessly disregarding the economic warning signs and are demanding more and more from a budget that is absolutely strained to the limit,” Bingham said. “. . .These demands must stop.”

The school board will appoint a new member to serve the remainder of Bingham’s term, which expires in November, 1989, said board member Sharon Scott. The deadline for potential board members to apply is April 5.
