Local News in Brief : Costa Mesa : State Trophy Captured by OCC Speech Team

Orange Coast College’s speech and debate team has won the State Championship Trophy for an unprecedented third straight year.

Competing in the state competition at Sacramento City College this past weekend, the Orange Coast orators defeated 26 other community college teams. Saddleback College of Mission Viejo finished a close second, only 15 points behind Orange Coast.

Orange Coast’s speech and debate team now advances to the national tournament, which will be held April 2-9 in Minnesota. The Orange Coast team last year placed second in the national tourney.

Coaches for the Orange Coast team are Norm Fricker, Kat Carroll, Peg Taylor and Alice Reich.
