The Gardena City Council this week postponed action on two issues--including whether to conduct major audits at the city’s three gambling clubs--until after the city’s April 12 election.

The agenda at Tuesday’s meeting originally included a report from City Manager Kenneth Landau on conducting a financial audit at the Normandie Casino, but the council decided to hold the issue until a special council meeting on April 19, one week after the municipal election, when new council members will be sworn in.

The council also amended the item to include audits of the city’s other card clubs, the Horseshoe Club and the Eldorado Club. None of the three clubs “have ever had this extensive an audit,” Landau said.

After a public hearing on a mini-mall to be built on Crenshaw Boulevard at Compton Boulevard, the council also delayed until April 19 a vote on whether to approve the project over the objections of some residents. At the request of resident Kai Parker, Mayor Donald L. Dear also asked the city staff to prepare a report for the council on the effects of mini-malls in Gardena.
