Local News in Brief : Boy OKd for Donor list
UCLA Medical Center officials ruled Friday that 5-year-old Armando Vargas can be placed on the donor list for a new liver if funding for the $150,000 operation is approved by the state.
Vargas, a native of Mexico, came to the Westwood hospital six weeks ago hoping the state would pay for the operation he could not get in Mexico. The state Department of Health Services, which can approve funding for the operation, is still reviewing the case.
Armando, who has chronic liver disease, was listed in fair condition Friday.
