Michael Caine is starring in his first movie for U.S. television. He’ll play a Scotland Yard inspector in “Jack the Ripper,” a four-hour drama for CBS. Jane Seymour, who’ll be seen on CBS next Sunday in “The Woman He Loved,” also is in the cast, as is Armand Assante, who starred earlier this season in “Napoleon and Josephine.”

Keeping with its tradition of recent years, ABC plans to broadcast a Barbara Walters special on the same night as the Academy Awards (April 11). Her guests on that show will be Cher, Glenn Close, both Oscar nominees, and Oprah Winfrey.

Briefly noted: The CBS soap opera “The Young and the Restless” will celebrate its 15th anniversary Monday. . . . NBC’s “Crime Story” will wind up the season with three episodes filmed in Acapulco. . . . NBC’s “Today” show has booked passage on the Orient Express for a week of telecasts, beginning May 9.
