A sheriff’s deputy on routine patrol early Sunday discovered the body of a Santa Ana man lying near a street in Dana Point, authorities said.
Murder is suspected because the man had a head wound, and an autopsy will be performed, Sheriff’s Department Lt. Larry Richey said.
The victim was identified as Jose Salazar Reynaldo, 25.
Richey said the deputy, who was not identified, was driving on Stonehill Drive near Del Obispo Street when he discovered the body about 5:15 a.m. Richey said the body was about 100 yards from the street, in an open area at the dead end of Stonehill Drive, near San Juan Creek.
An investigation is continuing, he said.
