College Roundup : Mooney Pitches Chapman to Victory
Jeff Mooney threw a four-hitter to lead Chapman College past Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, 2-1, in a California College Athletic Assn. baseball game Tuesday night at Hart Park.
Mooney, a senior, had 8 strikeouts and improved to 5-3. Lee Hancock threw a 3-hitter with 10 strikeouts but gave up 2 unearned runs in the seventh inning to take the loss.
In Golden State Athletic Conference baseball:
The Master’s 17, Southern California College 8--Tom Beagles went 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs as the Master’s outslugged SCC. Joe Holden was 3 for 5 and George Allen and Jeff Motske hit home runs for SCC (10-17-1, 6-4).
In PCAA softball:
Cal State Fullerton 1-1 Hawaii 0-4--In the first game at Honolulu, Anjie Bryant (16-3) threw a two-hit shutout for Fullerton (31-9, 6-4). In the second game, Blythe Sakashita and Audra Kaluau each had two hits for Hawaii, which scored three runs in the top of the fifth. Sakashita and Kaluau had triples in the inning. Hawaii is 15-12 and 3-7.
In nonconference men’s tennis:
Chapman 5, Harvard 1--Miles Walker, a senior, won the No. 1 singles match over Mark Leschly, 6-2, 6-2, to lead host Chapman.
