Pomona : Council OKs Transit Zone
The City Council voted this week to approve the joint powers agreement that will create the Foothill Transit zone, despite the opposition of Councilman C. L. (Clay) Bryant, who said the city could be held liable in any legal action against the new bus district.
After City Atty. Patrick Sampson assured the council that the city would not be held liable in lawsuits against the 20-city transit district, the council voted 3 to 1 in favor of signing the agreement. Bryant opposed the measure, while Councilwoman Nell Soto, who works for the Southern California Rapid Transit District, abstained.
By approving the agreement, Pomona became the 13th San Gabriel Valley city to officially join the new transit zone. Seven more city councils will vote on the matter between Monday and April 14.
Under the agreement, the cities and the county would contract for bus service now provided by RTD in most areas of the San Gabriel Valley and by Foothill Transit in Pomona and Claremont.
