French actress Isabelle Adjani (“Ishtar”) Thursday was awarded $300,000 compensation in a Los Angeles federal court from Time magazine and the Young & Rubicam advertising agency for using her picture in a Time ad without permission. The Time ads, which ran in 1986 in the New York Times and Womens’ Wear Daily, used a picture of Adjani from an earlier Time story. U.S. District Court Judge Ronald Lew ruled that Time used Adjani’s photograph in such a way that she appeared to be endorsing the magazine. Time attorney Anthony E. Liebig said he had no comment about the decision. He added he didn’t know whether the magazine will file an appeal.
