Fujitsu Systems of America announced it has sold a route accounting system including 2,500 hand-held computers to baked-goods manufacturer Pepperidge Farm, a unit of Campbell Soup. FSA, which is based in San Diego, did not disclose the dollar value of the contract.

Each Pepperidge Farm route salesman will use the computers to keep track of orders, sales and inventory, a Fujitsu spokeswoman said. Since introducing the product in February, 1986, FSA has also sold a system consisting of 10,000 hand-held computers to Frito-Lay, a Dallas-based subsidiary of Pepsico.

FSA, a division of Japan-based Fujitsu Ltd., sells automated teller machines and point-of-sale computer systems in addition to hand-held computer systems. The division’s administrative, research, sales and marketing operations are based in San Diego, employing 450. FSA’s assembly and testing operations are in Dominguez Hills.
