In response to Steve Harvey’s brief story (Metro, March 15) regarding our $1.99 special, please consider the following:

The last time we served a pedestrian at the drive-through window (we do not have a walk-up window), we became the victim of an armed robber. When our cashier rung the order and opened the window to make change, the customer put a gun to the cashier’s ribs, leaned in through the window and removed all the bills from the register and fled. It is unlikely that a human being could reach the cash drawer while seated in a vehicle. Since that incident, it has been company policy not to serve pedestrians at the drive-through window for the safety of our cashiers.

Many full-service restaurants feature often identical menus at lunch and dinner at very different prices. Are they discriminating against evening diners? I think not; they are merely exercising their right to market their services to fit their business patterns.

Our special pricing is designed to help customers expeditiously make their purchase decision, not to discriminate against those without automobiles.

Our apologies to Teddy Chavez of Hollywood. Our policy of not serving pedestrians at the drive-through window was designed to protect our employees, not to discriminate against those who do not own a car.
