The New York Yankees confirmed that they are trying to trade outfielder Dave Winfield and said one of the teams under discussion is the Baltimore Orioles.
The most popular rumor would send Winfield to Baltimore for outfielder Fred Lynn. Neither player can be traded without his consent.
Winfield, however, has a list of seven clubs to which he would approve a trade, and Baltimore is one of them. The others are the remaining American League East teams and the Seattle Mariners.
Winfield has sparked trade talks because of controversy he stirred in camp with his new book.
