The Bolshoi Tapes
Potential ticket purchasers for the stars of the Bolshoi Ballet performance at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles April 24 are not being fully informed.
While the producers are charging top dollar for this performance, the performers are presently scheduled to dance to taped music instead of the traditional live orchestra.
This is a cynical rip-off of the ballet-loving public that will also eliminate work for the wonderfully talented musicians who usually accompany ballet performances here. There are 165 professional musicians in Musicians’ Union Local 47 who regularly play for such internationally renowned troupes as the Bolshoi, the American Ballet Theatre and the Joffrey, among others.
This playing of tapes for the ballet is an artistic outrage. Our informational pickets will so inform the audience on its way into the performance.
