Proposals to Reduce Growth in Orange County
It is hard to believe the low esteem that members of the Orange County Board of Supervisors have for the public. In The Times’ articles concerning the slow-growth initiative, the supervisors continually referred to the public as not being informed or understanding.
In one Times’ article, Supervisor Harriett Wieder says that the public is not aware of the board’s actions to relieve traffic congestion, and Supervisor Thomas Riley says that he doubts that everyone understands the reasons supervisors have approved some projects.
The public understands very well what concerns it. The public understands very well the supervisors’ lack of attention to the public’s desires. I propose that the supervisors do not understand the need and wants of their constituents and therefore should resign, as such is an admission of a failure to perform their jobs as supervisors properly.
The residents of Orange County are tired of being treated like children who need to be told, “You don’t know what’s good for you, and you don’t have the ability to understand and make decisions about issues that affect your lives.”
It is time for the supervisors to stop saying “Let them eat cake.”
