A 94-year-old Santa Ana man charged in the fatal shooting of his 88-year-old wife last Thursday is expected to be released from County Jail today after his attorney got his bail reduced in Central Municipal Court from $250,000 to $25,000.
Edward Harrell, who allegedly shot his wife, Connie, with a .38-caliber revolver following an argument over money, has been housed in the medical ward at the jail. His attorney, Paul S. Meyer, said Harrell’s several children, who are in their 60s and 70s, are putting up his bail money.
Harrell still has not entered a plea to the charges. His arraignment has been rescheduled for May 16. Meyer said “all the facts are not in yet, and it is hard to say right now just what happened.”
Harrell, who allegedly had accused his wife of taking $12,500 in savings from his trunk in a den closet, left the room to get a gun and returned and shot her. The Harrells’ housekeeper ran crying from the house and called the police from a neighbor’s. The Harrells reportedly had been married 55 years.
