12th Guilty Plea in L.A. Mob Case
One of the three reputed mobsters on trial in a racketeering case pleaded guilty today to extortion, wire fraud and bribery of bank officials. John DeMattia, 50, of Sherman Oaks agreed to accept a prison term of three years and three days in exchange for his guilty pleas to the three charges. DeMattia’s plea brings to 12 the number of men who have pleaded guilty in the case that prosecutors said dealt a “decapitating” blow to organized crime in Los Angeles. Among those who previously entered guilty pleas was alleged mob boss Peter John Milano.
