Chargers to Discover Division Status Early

The Chargers will open their 1988 National Football League season by playing their first five games against AFC West opponents, starting with road games against the Raiders Sept. 4 and the AFC champion Denver Broncos Sept. 11, the team announced Tuesday.

The Chargers will play the Seattle Seahawks Sept. 18 in their home opener at San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium.

The team will return to the road against the Kansas City Chiefs Sept. 25 before playing host to the Broncos Oct. 2. The will not meet a team from outside the AFC West until they play host to New Orleans of the NFC West on Oct. 9.

For the second consecutive season, the Chargers will not appear on ABC’s “Monday Night Football,” but they will play host to the Raiders on Nov. 6 at 5 p.m. in a game to be televised nationally by ESPN.
