A record-breaking 11 million people went to theaters in London’s West End last year, it was announced Wednesday. Revenues from 42 area theaters totaled a record $207 million, according to the Society of West End Theater. Louis Benjamin, president of the Stoll Moss group, which owns 12 London theaters, said that such shows as “42nd Street” and “Phantom of the Opera” promise to make 1988 “the best ever in the history of the company.”
