Local News in Brief : Glendale Council OKs Response to Lawsuit

Share

The Glendale City Council on Tuesday authorized the city attorney to respond to a lawsuit that seeks to block construction of the largest office complex in the city.

Donald G. Barlow, who is an owner of property at 805 and 811 N. Central Ave., contends in a Superior Court suit that the city prematurely approved an environmental impact report for the proposed Carnation Co. headquarters tower to be built at 800 N. Brand Blvd.

The suit, filed March 24, charges that the environmental report did not consider the full impact of traffic and parking congestion that will arise from construction of the 20-story tower, a proposed hotel and other office projects to be built in the Glendale Redevelopment Project north of the Ventura Freeway.

The Glendale Redevelopment Agency has begun action to obtain ownership of the tower site, and construction is scheduled to start in early summer.

City Atty. Frank Manzano said the city believes that the environmental impact report was proper. He said it included a study of projected traffic increase. He said the number of parking spaces will exceed the minimum required by city codes.
