Long Beach : Hearing Set on Parking Tax

Share

Business owners in Belmont Shore would have to pay a special tax to buy land and build more parking lots under a proposal the city will consider May 17.

The Long Beach City Council this week set the public hearing to receive comments on the proposed formation of a community facilities district. If approved, the district would mean that businesses along the trendy 2nd Street strip would have to pay 66 cents per square foot of existing property to help buy eight lots and develop them into parking facilities.

The proposal is part of a program the Belmont Shore Board of Parking Place Commissioners approved last year. Belmont Shore representatives say they are willing to assess themselves a special tax to alleviate the parking crunch in the area.
